Berlin Highrise

Located on the site of the Berlin Wall, this project looks at how to densify in an urban space formally part of communist East Germany.

The project site lies on the Spree in Berlin, Germany. The left side of the photo shows what was once West Germany and on the right, where the site is, what was once East Germany forming the border of the Berlin Wall. As the city grows there will be a need for it to densify. Therefore, the project proposal is to create a towers which accommodate commercial and residential space with heavy consideration given to communal points of interaction.

In order to begin designing gridshell structures it was necessary to conduct research on constructed examples. Embarking on this as a group, we built a model of the Weald and Downland Gridshell in Surrey as well as designed and constructed a full-scale, single-lathe gridshell. Instructors: Clara Kraft and Satoshi Isono Group: Liang Liang He, Roshun Dehokenanan, Bradley Roast and Lenia Korovesi

The model was used in a UEL Architecture Department-wide presentation by Andrew Holloway of the Green Oak Carpentry Company. Mr. Holloway led the construction of the Weald and Downland Gridshell.

Undergratuate in Interior Architecture project: an investigation of retail brand identity and the built environment. Unfinished concrete and exposed bricks expose the building's fundamental elements, subconsciously creating the link with the honesty in construction and in the brand. The site is in a typically long, narrow, San Francisco building. The challenge was to accommodate the different spatial needs of varying types of café clients while still directing traffic in and around the space.

The project was hand-drawn and the model hand-cut.
